Heeeey Happy New Year!
Most of us get the itch to do something different as the calendar flips from one year to another, right?! New year. New Look. Its pretty common.. For me, 2014 was all about my hair!! I wanted a new look!
I was team relaxer most of my life and decided to big chop to team natural in 2008. I sported a teeny weeny afro and grew my hair out to a pretty good length (slightly past bra strap flat ironed) I’ve enjoyed the journey tremendously and would not trade it for anything. I’ve never been one to do different styles other than the occasional twist outs, ponytails, and buns. Needless to say, on my journey, I grew bored and started contemplating my next hair move. I dyed it, did flat twists, bantu knot outs…. still not satisfied. I wanted a sophisticated, fun look and something easy to maintain while working out.
I jumped on Pinterest and started pinning really cute haircuts, particularly the one McKenzie Renae had been wearing. I’ll admit, I became obsessed with this young ladies hair and just knew, this was THE cut for me.
I called my favorite stylist and she didn’t have any availability. I was bummed but I was determined to get my hair cut within 48 hours | before I changed my mind |!! I called another stylist and she had an appointment available. I booked it and 3 hours later, my 8-year-old and 18-year-old daughters headed to the salon. My 18-year-old was eager to see me make the transition from long to short hair while my 8-year-old had a mini melt down. She did not want her mommy to have short hair.
I sat in the chair for my new bad girl short hair cut. Yesssss, I was thinking to myself…. She picked up the scissors and started cutting my hair, I was like, hol’ up, hol’ up, hold up, I’m not ready for this. Flashes of me regretting the teeny weeny afro phase came over me and I quickly shifted my request for that cut to an inverted bob. I just couldn’t do it….
Oh, well, right??!? The bob cut suits me very well so I did get a different look. Not exactly the funk I was trying to bring but it fits me well. Who knows, I may go in later for a different restyling but I need to ease into short hair. If I do, you’ll know first! I’m looking forward to seeing how my natural curls pop with the bob cut. It may be that big change I was hoping for.
Do you have any haircut chronicles that you regret? Or did you have an oops haircut that you ended up loving? Come on, spill it.. Am I the only one who ever chickened out on a hairstyle? 🙂
